To those who don’t know, “Can’t Top the Lindy Hop” was the celebration of Frankie Manning’s 80th birthday in New York City in 1994. The video of the event was one of the early inspirations in my dancing and in that of many dancers of my generation. Some of the dancing is old school and some of the dancing stands up ridiculously well over the years. I wanted to get a hold of a good clear copy on DVD but they weren’t available so I spoke to the man who put the video of the event together initially, Stuart Math to see if he would be interested in making DVDs available and guess what, he’s done just that! The event video is about 100 minutes long and it has performances, video of the evening dances, Frankie’s birthday celebration, including his birthday dance, Frankie leading the entire ballroom in the Shim Sham, and a great jam circle that closed the event. The disc also has the birthday video I made for Frankie which was shown the evening of his birthday celebration. The video has people from around the world dancing to Shiny Stockings.
