This page is dedicated to the Motown sound, the most prolific label in Soul music. This is soul music with a serious pop appeal, sweeter than Stax and lots of it swinging like nobody’s business which makes it great for dancing, and you’ve probably heard a ton of it. Anyways, this compilation is a solid starter, but definitely only a starter for Motown stuff.
You really need at least some greatest hits albums by the artists themselves to get close to having the essential Motown stuff. Here are some that will hold you in good stead if you don’t feel like buying up all the albums, mainly good starters with the main big hits.
