Lessons

Here are the basics of what we’ll cover in the lessons:

Beginner A

6-Count Lindy Hop (a lot like East Coast Swing with triple-steps) & Charleston

In the Beginner A lessons we’ll work on 6-Count Lindy Hop (a lot like East Coast Swing with triple-steps) & some Charleston. We’ll start from zero and by the end of 4 weeks we’ll have you comfortable with some of the building blocks of a fun night out dancing, simple spins & turns, and the basic Charleston step. If you’ve tried East Coast Swing before, we encourage you to check these lessons out as we go about things with a little more focus on momentum and rhythm than you may have encountered before.

Beginner B

8-count Lindy Hop (Swingouts, Promenade, Breaks)

In the Beginner B lessons we’ll start from zero and work our way up to the 8-count basic of the Lindy Hop, the swingout. In 4 weeks we’ll get you from total beginner to comfortable with several moves in closed and open position and we’ll also throw in a couple of breaks to spice up your dances. The swingout is what makes the Lindy Hop such a special dance and in Beginner B series you’ll get a feeling for the momentum that gives it that swing.

* Students can begin with either Beginner A or B, but they must complete both Beginner A and Beginner B before moving on to the Beginner Plus level.

Beginner Plus

6-count & 8-count Lindy Hop, Swingout variations & basic turns

Beginner Plus assumes a familiarity with all material covered in both Beginner levels (A & B) and will focus on refining and adding some basic variations to the swingout.  We will also work on going between some 6-count & 8-count moves to start getting away from the counts.

Intermediate

Technique, connection, cool moves, and bunch of other stuff!

In the Intermediate level we will build on and refine the basics of the dance and get into more complicated moves and ideas about connection.  Students can repeat these Intermediate series indefinitely as I am always changing up the class material to keep things interesting for the students and myself.  Whether you just finished up the Beginner Plus series or you have been dancing a couple years and want to bump your dancing up a notch, these lessons can help you.  I’ve taught all levels of dancers all around the world for years.  If you show up, I guarantee I can give you something to work on, so come give it a try!

Charleston

This is an entire month working on the Charleston, pulsing, kicking, and sweating all over the place. We’ll begin with refining and drilling your solo movement, challenging you with new patterns & shapes and then we’ll move into the basics of partnering the dance – but doing it better. Finally we hope to show you some new fancy tricks that you can do solo or with a partner and overall leave you a changed dancer with the Charleston firmly in your wheelhouse.
