Herrang 2012

Hey Minnesota Lindy Hoppers!  Next summer we hope you will join several of us in some big plans.  We are trying to motivate and facilitate dancers from the Twin Cities to get to Herrang Dance Camp in July, 2012.

We need everyone interested in Herrang 2012 to register HERE before December 1st so that we can be in contact with the good folks at Herrang who are considering donations of FREE WEEKS at Herrang 2012 to certain scenes across the world who have their stuff together and are helping to motivate people and raise money on their own to get to Herrang this summer.  That is us!   So help us send them a good presentation and FILL OUT THIS FORM RIGHT NOW and let us know about your plans.

Whether you plan on going next year, or you hope to go next year, or you just vaguely think you want to go next year, I want you to register yourself.  We will be helping people plan, answering questions, twisting arms, and even raising money to help people who need it.  Early next year you’ll have to decide for sure about Herrang 2012, but for now, if you are remotely interested in the possibility, you should register and let us know.  It will change your dancing, it will blow your mind.

I know some of you may be asking…

What is Herrang?

If you don’t know about Herrang, it is a 5-week camp, essentially the Mecca of Lindy Hop and it draws thousands of dancers from all over the world every year.  You can sign up for a week, or two, or even five if you are crazy.  There are classes, there is dancing every night until the early morning, there are perfomances all the time, scheduled and impromptu, and every week there is a special Friday night theme party where people go all out, and way way more than that.  The spirit of Herrang really can’t be described, just ask around, everyone says the same thing when describing Herrang – “You can’t describe it, you just have to go.”   Take a little look at the promo vid for Herrang 2011 for just a taste:

You can see stuff like this impromptu performance by the amazing Harlem Hot Shots:

Or this class that I was taking this last year that was interrupted in the end, unannounced, by a live band and waiters with drinks and ice cream.

Or this routine that these students learned after a week at camp:

Or just random stuff like this that gets to be normal after a while:

I’ll be posting a registration page here soon for those who are serious about trying to get there next year.  If you wanna do it, we want to help you make it happen! We’ve raised $700 so far and we’re having another Uptown Strutters’ Ball to raise funds as well.  For now, if you have any interest or questions about what it takes to get to Herrang or what it’s like or anything else, drop me a line @ lindymovement@gmail.com.
